Australia beat India by 298 runs.
Australia needed just 4 wickets to finish the formality. They did so within an hour. It was only a matter of time for this impressive Australian attack.
The Australian attack never gave an opportunity for the Indians. They were at them all the time. There were very less free boundary balls. India were made to earn every run. The famed batting line up failed. Only Virat Kohli made a century. And none had an average above 40 is a result of that attacking bowling.
India’s bowling was far from what it should have been. Ishant Sharma learnt both sides of life. He was the star and the ‘next big thing’ during the last tour of Australia. Now he had only five wickets to show for the whole series. He didn’t have luck but he wasn’t able to create his own luck either. Umesh Yadav was impressive and showed consistent improvement. With experience, he can become a very good bowler. Zaheer Khan still puts that extra effort. Ravinchandran Ashwin showed gritty batting and toiled with the ball. He was the man for the press conferences too. He was sent three times.
The Australian batting fired with Shaun Marsh being the only exception. Ed Cowan was steady in his debut series. David Warner delivered the knock out punch at Perth. Micheal Clarke and Ricky Ponting were in scintillating form. Micheal Hussey contributed in crucial times. The lower order were spot on when the situations came. The Australian team played as a unit.
India were outbatted, outbowled, outfielded and were completely outplayed. 4-0 is only a fair reflection. It’s time for the Indian team management to take some hard decisions. The problems are at root level too. Changing the team alone won’t help in long term. India will have to wait another two years before they can be tested again. Australia will need to continue their good work if they wish to return to thei place of supremacy.
