Yesterday lots of reports emerged that Rahul Dravid is going to announce his retirement after this match. The Indian team has clarified today that no player is going to retire.
“The team takes note of the stories in the media suggesting the imminent retirement of a member of the Indian team. We would like to clarify the situation by stating categorically that these are not correct and are baseless. No players from the Indian team will be retiring. It is a rumour. Baseless. Incorrect.” Indian team spokesperson said in an announcement. VVS Laxman was said to have played his last test match after the Perth test. Dravid’s rumor started after another failure in Australia.
“I clarify that there is no need for retirement from anybody in this team. And they will take their call when they need it and when they think that their time is up.” Virender Sehwag, the captain for this test, said.
For next two years India don’t have an away tour. This will be the correct time to groom youngsters. Dravid had a very poor tour after his brilliant heroics against England. Incidentally Dravid was the one who asked Ricky Ponting not to retire and continue playing. Will the seniors retire or will they be dropped is a question that remains unanswered
