Pakistan 2nd innings 214
England 2nd innings 72
Pakistan won by 72 runs.
Pakistan came back amazingly to win an incredible test match. Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq rescued Pakistan with a gritty 88 run stand. The new ball did the damage for Pakistan after Monty Panesar removed Asad Shafiq. Ali got a brute of a delivery from James Anderson which reared from just a good length and caught him high on the gloves.
Adnan Akmal fell to rash stroke. With every run being very important, Pakistan’s lower order started their batting. They added some valuable runs before Panesar got a couple more to finish with a six-for. They managed to keep the target below 150. Johnathan Trott being unwell added to England worries.
Mohammad Hafeez’s golden arm continued as he picked up Alastair Cook early. After an opening partnership of 21, England struggled for any good partnership. Ian Bell was unlucky as the ball rolled into the stumps following a defensive prod. Abdur Rehwan and Saeed Ajmal started to weave their magic. Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan went in quick succession scoring 1 and 0 respectively.
Andrew Strauss struggled to find timing. But hung on through the torrid time to score 32. When he started to build a partnership with Matt Prior, he lost his wicket as he tried a shot off the back foot. Playing back isn’t the best idea on a spinning track and England never realized their mistakes. Johnathan Trott got out for 1 playing back. England at 68 for 6 hoped for a Stuart Broad heroic. But there was none as he got for a 0 in the same over.
The remaining wickets couldn’t manage any as England crumbled to 72. Abdur Rehwan claimed 6 wickets. It was terrific turnaround for Pakistan. The spin struggle continues for England. Only two crossed double figure mark. Lot of work to do for the Number 1 test side.
